Youth Justice Caseworker
Are you passionate about improving the health and well-being of Indigenous communities?
Murray Valley Aboriginal Cooperative (MVAC) is seeking a dedicated and culturally aware Youth Justice Caseworker to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people who are engaged with, or at risk of becoming involved in, the youth justice system. This role is vital in helping young people build stronger cultural identity, reduce offending behaviour, and stay connected with their families, community, education, and employment pathways.
You’ll be working in a holistic, trauma-informed framework, supporting young people through case management, advocacy, and mentoring while collaborating with Elders, families, justice agencies, schools, and community organisations.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Deliver culturally grounded, youth-focused case management and mentoring.
- Support young people to meet justice order requirements, diversion programs, and rehabilitation goals.
- Build strong relationships with families, Elders, schools, and community organisations.
- Advocate for young people within justice, education, and welfare systems.
- Facilitate access to services such as education, training, housing, mental health, substance use support, and cultural programs.
- Maintain accurate case notes and reporting in line with legislation and MVAC requirements.
- Experience in community services or youth work, ideally in a community-focused or not-for-profit organisation.
- Strong understanding of child safety standards and child protection laws.
- Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people.
- Ability to build rapport with young people and engage diverse stakeholders.
- Cultural awareness, understanding of local Aboriginal history, and commitment to culturally safe practice.
- Strong computer and record-keeping skills.
- Working With Children Check (linked to MVAC)
- Recent Police Check
- Current unrestricted driver’s licence
- Child Safety Standards training
- MARAM (if required)
- First Aid Certificate (0003 or above)
- Full-time (34 hours per week)
