APRAP Caseworker


Are you passionate about improving the health and well-being of Indigenous communities?



The APRAP Caseworker supports individuals and families who are experiencing, or at risk of, homelessness by helping them access, establish, and maintain safe and stable private rental housing. This role provides practical financial support, tenancy advocacy, and tailored case management within a strengths-based and trauma-informed framework. You’ll work closely with real estate agents, landlords, housing providers, and other community services to secure positive tenancy outcomes and strengthen long-term housing stability. The role also contributes to MVAC’s broader mission of reducing homelessness and promoting social inclusion.

Key Responsibilities



  • Provide client-focused case management for people at risk of homelessness.
  • Assess housing and financial needs and determine eligibility for APRAP assistance.
  • Deliver brokerage support such as rent in advance, bond, arrears, and relocation assistance.
  • Support clients with budgeting, tenancy rights, life skills, and community connections.
  • Advocate with real estate agents, landlords, and property managers.
  • Develop case plans and maintain accurate records and reporting.
  • Work collaboratively with internal MVAC teams and external service providers.
  • Participate in supervision, team meetings, and continuous improvement processes.


      Key Requirements


      Essential:

      • Experience in community services, ideally within a not-for-profit or community-focused organisation.
      • Strong understanding of Child Safety Standards and child protection legislation.
      • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse clients and stakeholders.
      • Experience working with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people.
      • Strong computer skills, including MS Office, email, data entry, and record management.
      • Valid Working With Children Check (linked to MVAC) and a recent Police Check.
      • Unrestricted driver’s licence.


          Personal Qualities:

          • Respect for local Aboriginal history and culture.
          • Cultural awareness and an ability to work in a culturally safe way.
          • Ability to work independently and communicate effectively.


              Desirable:

              • First Aid Certificate (code ending in 0003 or above).
              • MARAM training (if required).
              • Qualification in Workplace Standards.
