AOD / Mental Health Worker
Position Scope
To provide high quality mental health assessment, treatment planning and case management services to clients who present with severe and complex difficulties.
This position works closely with the General Practitioner, SEWB and Family Services teams, providing a key role in the intake and crisis management functions for the SEWB and Mental Health services provided at MVAC
The role is to focus on the identify needs, by means of assessment, intervene and support identified clients in a cultural appropriate manner – particularly those with multiple and complex needs - through using strength-based family recovery focused approach.
Tenure: 12 months – position will be ongoing dependent on funding
Time fraction: Full time (34 hours per week)
Award: Conditions of employment under Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services Award 2010.
Salary: Range: This will be dependent on experience and qualifications. Salary packaging is available.
Position Location The position will be based at Murray Valley Aboriginal Co-operative Ltd, currently located at 87 Latje Road, Robinvale, Victoria.

1. Responsibilities KPI’s
Intake Processes:
- Participate and attend all clinical meetings regarding intake and referrals – particularly in regards to cultural issues and identifying specific as well as general client coordinated care needs
- As needed provide outreach support to clients who are hard to reach / engage to assist access into the service as part of a planned approach
2. Case Management and direct client support:
- Assist clients in the development and implementation of a well-being mental health plan tailored to the client’s needs and circumstances. This will be achieved through a team approach working with internal and external services.
- Participate in case planning and review meetings regarding clients including formal and informal meetings and discussions. Monitor, review and adjust.
- Acts as a liaison, client advocate to those involved with the client
3. Referrals:
- Provide referrals to appropriate services and relevant residential respite facilities or for non-residential counselling and rehabilitation.
- Seek feedback from agencies in terms of the appropriateness of referrals.
- Maintain effective links with relevant referral agencies.
- Liaise with the MVAC Health Service Team and organise adult health checks for groups of substance abuse clients
4. Diversion:
- Work with relevant wrap around services to plan and develop group programs aimed at providing diversion from substance abuse to community members e.g. men’s groups, cultural awareness camps, D & A-free camping trips, visits to Mental Health Unit etc.
- Arrange necessary courses in Robinvale for justice/substance abuse clients, as part of the diversionary program
- Provide support to existing men’s groups in Robinvale and ensure new clients join in the group activities.
- Arrange men’s group meetings as required.

- Maintaining an awareness of Community, provide direct services including assessment, planning and delivery. These services include the use of core discipline assessment and diagnostic skills, treatment planning, intervention, crisis management and case management skills.
- Demonstrate a high level of interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, incorporating the use of data management programs.
- Work cooperatively and effectively within a multidisciplinary team and with clients, their families/carers, and other involved stakeholders.
- Contribute to maintaining a safe work place that values the health and safety of co-workers, clients and stakeholders.

Mandatory Qualifications
- Bachelor in related areas of Social Work \ Mental Health | Family Violence
- Certificate or work experience in Drug and Alcohol \ Dual Diagnosis case management
- This position offers outreach to clients therefore it is essential to possess a current driver’s licence.
- Appointments to this position is subject to a police & Working with Children’s check

- Remuneration will be in accordance with industry standards
- Performance KPIS will be set on commencement with a review conducted annually in accordance with the Health Action Plan.
- Contribute to monthly Board Reports and bi-annual submission reports
- MVAC operates a smoke free working environment.
- Current First Aid Certificate Level 2 and to maintain currency of Level 2 certificate.
