Kinship Care occurs when Child Protection is involved and the child is unable to live with their parents. This program works with the child and carer, the carer can be a family member, extended family member or significant other of the child’s social and mental wellbeing network under the child placement principal. Referrals to the program are made by DHHS Child Protection.
The Kinship Care Case Worker will work in partnership with kinship carers, children and young people, birth parents, extended family and professional stakeholders to strengthen the carer’s capacity to provide a safe and stable environment which nurtures the child’s development, wellbeing and culture. This role will predominantly focus on providing and supporting children, young people and their carer’s.
You will have a strong knowledge and understanding of the issues surrounding Aboriginal families, stolen generation and the need for cultural strengthening and community connection. You will have a strong knowledge and understanding of the issues surrounding out-of-home care placements and services along with excellent verbal, documented and written communication skills. You will create positive and collaborative relationships within a team environment to deliver programs focused on creating long lasting change and positive outcomes.
A relevant tertiary qualification in Social Work, Welfare Work, Diploma of Community Services or Social Sciences or less formal qualifications with significant industry experience would be highly advantageous.
