Take the time to give yourself the long overdue self love and care that your mind, body and soul needs. Embrace your unique imperfections and be proud of the strong black woman you are.

This piece represents women standing together throughout their journey with Breast Cancer. Healing together and standing strong – looking towards the horizon with determination and hope.

The waterways offer us healing. The journey symbols represent all women have their own journey in life and healing.  The dragonflies represent that in a time when we are undressing for screening we can feel delicate and vulnerable. The wings our drawn with metallic gold to lifts our spirit’s and to make us feel special at an emotional time.

This piece of cloth designed with wax and dyed shows a spirit woman dreaming in her country. It depicts the Malle landscapes that surround our area, also shows women business and women meeting.

ARTIST STATEMENT/STORY BEHIND THE ARTWORK:

The art work shares the story of our sacred and healing waterways, which are significant to our healing emotionally and physically. Our waterways are our connection to our food source our plant & animal kinship and to one another. A place of gathering for our women to come together to heal and yarn woman’s business in a culturally safe space to allow conversations and knowledge around womens health to be had. The use of pink and peachy tones to align with the femininity of the woman and aligning perfectly with the breast health colours.

This story depicts the the sun shining over the sand dunes or sand hills across our Murray region.  The importance of the sun over our health can be rejuvenating for all.
